25 March 2011, Manila, Philippines: In partnership with the Philippine Society of Colorectal Surgeons (PSCRS), The Medical City (TMC) held a free lay forum on colorectal cancer during the PSCRS’s second national convention at the Diamond Hotel, Manila. Entitled “Time to Live and Learn,” the forum was held at the hotel’s Diamond Ballroom, 2^nd floor, from 5-7 PM. Topics encompassed the whole spectrum of issues on colorectal cancer care, adhering to TMC’s thrust for both comprehensive health care and education.

“This marks our second year holding this colorectal cancer lay forum, and I am thrilled to note that certain advancements in the field, such as robotic surgery, have made this year’s discussions particularly fresh and engaging,” says Dr. Manuel Francisco T. Roxas, President of the PSCRS and Head of TMC’s Section for Colorectal Surgery.

The forum’s topics and speakers were as follows:

• Safe and Sitting Pretty: The Benefits of Screening and Colonoscopy by Carlo Cajucom, MD
• 3 P’s for the Big C: Cancer and the Patient Partnership Philosophy by Cecilia P. Sandoval, RN
• The Doc and The Bot: Robotics and Colorectal Cancer by Manuel Francisco T. Roxas, MD
• Customized Compassion: Carewell and Support Group Services by Bobbit Suntay

“TMC aims to emphasize its leadership status in colorectal surgery, particularly in colorectal cancer care and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery,” adds Dr. Roxas.

This yearly collaboration between TMC and PSCRS is part of the hospital’s commitment to improving the state of Philippine health care via shared expertise and alliances with like-minded organizations.
